NEW MILFORD — A local man was arrested Saturday afternoon on charges of first-degree larceny following an investigation into allegations of misusing funds belonging to disabled clients.
Jonathan J. Vicente, 37, of New Milford, was taken into custody at 12:51 p.m. after a probe initiated by Ability Beyond, an organization serving individuals with disabilities.
The investigation began when Ability Beyond received a complaint about an employee who allegedly used clients’ money for personal expenses.
According to authorities, Vicente, who was employed by Ability Beyond, admitted to police that he had used funds assigned for the clients’ use to make personal purchases.
The investigation revealed that from January last year until February this year, Vicente had spent over $20,000 of the clients’ money.
An arrest warrant was issued for Vicente, who subsequently surrendered at the New Milford Police Department.
After processing, he was released on a $75,000 bond set by the court.
Vicente is scheduled to appear before the Torrington Court on May 16.
