SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU), led by Sergeant David Robillard, arrested four individuals and confiscated three illegal firearms, one being an AR-15, on Friday, April 19, at around 6:30 p.m.
The operation began earlier that afternoon when FIU detectives were conducting surveillance on the 100 block of Island Pond Road.
There, they observed a known 17-year-old juvenile with a suspended license operating a vehicle.
The same individual was later seen entering a vehicle as a passenger on the same block.
Detectives initiated a traffic stop on the 100 block of King Street, arresting the juvenile for driving a stolen vehicle with a suspended license.
The driver of the vehicle at the time of the stop was released.
Following the arrest, three individuals arrived at the residence on Island Pond Road, where a female, identified as Alize Marcano, exited the home carrying a large duffel bag.
The bag was then placed into the trunk of a car.
Detectives stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Alderman and Pomona Streets.
The car’s occupants were identified as Marilee Nunez, Cristian Vazquez, and Marcano.
A fourth person was briefly detained but later released.
The subsequent search of the duffel bag uncovered an AR-15 rifle with a 30-round magazine, a second illegal firearm equipped with a 50-round drum magazine, and a third illegal firearm located under the seat where Vazquez was seated.
Nunez, Vazquez, and Marcano were placed under arrest and face multiple charges related to illegal firearm possession.
Vazquez, a 21-year-old from Springfield, is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm without a license, unlicensed possession of an assault weapon, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
Marilee Nunez, a 37-year-old Springfield resident, faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm without a license, unlicensed possession of an assault weapon, and improper storage of a firearm.
Alize Marcano, 21, also from Springfield, is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm without a license, and unlicensed possession of an assault weapon.
Due to his age, the name and booking photo of the 17-year-old male are not being released.
