SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Department officers arrested a man Friday afternoon after seizing a loaded, large-capacity firearm from an apartment following a disturbance call.
At around 2:15 p.m., police responded to a gun-related disturbance on the 0-100 block of Harrison Avenue.
Edwin Torres Jr., 31, was identified as the suspect allegedly carrying the firearm in his waistband when officers arrived at the scene.
Within 15 minutes, officers were allowed entry into the apartment Torres had entered.
They found Torres in a bedroom holding the weapon.
Police safely removed the firearm from Torres’ possession and arrested him.
The seized firearm was loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, and its serial number had been illegally altered.
Torres, a Springfield resident, faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of a large-capacity firearm, receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
