Cranston man found dead after police respond to armed, suicidal report

CRANSTON — A man was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after Cranston Police responded to reports of a suicidal individual armed with a firearm on Tuesday afternoon.

At 1:12 p.m., the Cranston Police Dispatch Center received an emergency call about a 44-year-old male threatening suicide inside an apartment at 1097 Pontiac Avenue.

Officers quickly established a perimeter around the location and notified residents in the vicinity of the potential danger.

Efforts to communicate with the man proved fruitless.

At around 4 p.m., police entered the second-floor apartment and discovered the man had died.

The Cranston Police Department extends its condolences to the family of the deceased during this tragic time.
