BOSTON — An 18-year-old Boston resident was arrested Thursday afternoon by police for his alleged involvement in an armed carjacking that took place earlier this month in Brighton.
Romello McCain was apprehended at around 3:51 p.m. by members of the Youth Violence Strike Force and detectives from District D-14 (Allston/Brighton) in the vicinity of 2 East Brookline Street.
McCain was wanted on a straight warrant issued by Brighton District Court for a series of charges, including armed carjacking with a firearm, armed and masked robbery with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, and larceny over $1,200.
The Boston Police Department also executed a search warrant at the East Brookline address, where they seized a Glock 9mm ten-round magazine, 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 15 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition, and approximately $367 in cash.
The incident leading to McCain’s arrest occurred at about 11:39 p.m. on April 2, when officers were called to Goodenough Street in response to a reported armed carjacking.
According to the victim, two individuals brandished firearms and demanded their possessions.
The carjackers made off with the victim’s vehicle and personal items valued at roughly $1,300.
The stolen vehicle was later found unoccupied on 14 Greenwich Park.
McCain is scheduled to be arraigned in Brighton District Court.
