TRUMBULL — Three masked thieves made off with thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from a Kay’s store in Trumbull Mall after smashing a display case with a hammer on April 17.
The incident, which took place around 1:45 p.m., prompted calls to the Trumbull Police Department as startled shoppers heard the shattering glass and initially mistook the noise for gunfire.
Authorities later confirmed that no weapons were used in the theft.
Witnesses saw the suspects flee the scene on foot before escaping in a dark four-door sedan heading toward the Main Street exit.
Trumbull detectives are actively investigating the crime after gathering evidence and conducting interviews with numerous witnesses.
The total value of the stolen jewelry is still being determined.
