CRANSTON — The Cranston Police Department announced the arrest of a Massachusetts man for his alleged involvement in an ATM skimming operation that targeted local credit unions.
Ivan Gomez Liriano, 33, of West Springfield, was charged with multiple felony counts related to computer fraud and conspiracy following a detailed investigation by local detectives and federal agencies.
The arrest, made on March 29 in Springfield, was the result of weeks of investigative work that began with reports of suspicious ATM activities on March 6.
Detective Sergeant Jeff Chapman led the Cranston Police detectives in collaboration with federal law enforcement, including the United States Secret Service, to unravel the skimming scheme.
The FLOCK license plate recognition system played a critical role in identifying the suspect’s vehicle and tracking its movements near the crime scenes.
Gomez Liriano was extradited to Cranston on April 16 and Judge Houlihan set his bail at $5,000 surety.
His next court appearance is scheduled for July.
