ST. ALBANS — A St. Albans man is facing multiple charges, including arson and aggravated assault, after a series of incidents that occurred on Jan. 24.
Vermont State Police have issued an arrest warrant for Thomas LaPine, 37, following a morning fire and a subsequent burglary in the Nason Street area.
Authorities responded to a call at 7:30 a.m. about a recreational vehicle on fire outside a residence.
While fire crews were addressing the situation, a nearby home on Vivian Lane was burglarized.
Homeowner Danielle Stanley, 44, along with neighbor Kyle Baitz, 44, notified St. Albans Police Officer Alyson Dengler, who was on scene for the fire.
They identified LaPine, who was seen walking through a field between the two crime scenes.
When Officer Dengler attempted to detain LaPine, he resisted and assaulted her, causing injury.
Baitz also sustained injuries when he tried to aid Dengler.
LaPine was apprehended, transported to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, and cited for burglary.
He was released on a citation to appear in court.
Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with information on LaPine’s whereabouts to come forward.
