Hardwick man arrested for aggravated assault, grand larceny after stealing car

WALDEN — A Hardwick man faces charges of aggravated assault and grand larceny following an incident involving a stolen vehicle on April 11.

Brook Stotesbury, 41, allegedly assaulted and robbed Gerin Fortin, 27, also of Hardwick, according to Vermont State Police reports.

The altercation occurred on Noyestar Rd at the intersection of Richard Xing around 9:29 p.m.

Fortin was giving Stotesbury a courtesy ride when Stotesbury brandished a knife and attempted to assault him.

Fortin managed to escape the vehicle unharmed, but as he tried to prevent Stotesbury from fleeing with his car, he was dragged several feet before releasing the door handle.

State Police received the call shortly after the incident.

Later that evening, at approximately 9:57 p.m., Stotesbury was apprehended by the Berlin Police Department on US Rt 302 in Berlin on separate charges.

Investigations are ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
