SANFORD — A call reporting an active shooter at Southern Maine Health Care on Friday led to a swift response from the Sanford Police Department and neighboring agencies.
The call, which came in at 2:12 p.m., prompted an immediate deployment of officers to the scene.
Upon arrival, law enforcement quickly ascertained that the threat was unfounded.
Within four minutes of the call, it was determined that the report originated from a patient at the hospital experiencing a mental health crisis.
The Sanford Police Department confirmed that the active shooter report was false and that there was no danger to staff or patients at the healthcare facility.
