SOMERVILLE — A spate of break-ins and violent crimes has left Somerville residents on edge, with multiple incidents reported over the past week, according to the Somerville Police Department.
In the early hours of April 4, at 12:41 a.m., officers responded to a reported break-in on Alston Street.
The homeowner reported hearing footsteps on the second floor before witnessing an individual with a backpack flee the premises.
This incident was preceded by another break-in on Washington Street at 10:41 a.m. on April 3, where a resident discovered her belongings tampered with and missing items.
A similar occurrence was reported on Benton Road at 5:30 p.m. on April 2, where a resident returned home to find her door unlocked and her pets and money gone.
On April 7 at 5:24 p.m., a business owner on Medford Street reported a break-in at his storage unit, with several items stolen.
Violent crime also surged, with a robbery reported in Davis Square on April 2 at 10:10 a.m., when two male assailants attacked a pedestrian, stealing his wallet and iPhone.
One suspect wore blue jeans, and the other dark sweatpants.
A carjacking occurred on April 6 at 4:44 a.m. at the intersection of Mystic Avenue and Route 93.
The victim stated she was rear-ended by a white BMW, and upon exiting her car, was pushed to the ground by two males who then stole her vehicle.
The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the incident.
An assault was reported on Charlestown Street at approximately 4:48 p.m. on April 5, where a woman sustained a severe hand laceration after trying to assist a homeless male.
Additionally, a past armed robbery was reported on April 8.
The victim stated she was walking on Walnut Street at 8:00 a.m. when a young male wearing a black mask brandished a knife, stealing her phone and fleeing down Columbus Avenue.
Other crimes reported over the period include two motor vehicle vandalisms, a package theft, a motor vehicle theft, a bike theft, and a case of vandalism.
The Somerville Police Department urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
