CLAREMONT — At 12:08 p.m. on April 7, the Claremont Fire Department was dispatched to Barnes Park after receiving reports of smoke emanating from the grandstands.
Engine 3, Ladder 2, and Car 1 responded, arriving on scene four minutes later at 12:12 p.m.
Upon arrival, the first officer on the scene observed smoke billowing from the grandstand, which doubles as a storage facility.
Firefighters made entry and discovered flames within the upper seating area.
They swiftly contained the fire, preventing its spread to the roof and the extensive storage area below.
Additional off-duty fire personnel were called in to provide coverage for the city while the on-duty crew managed the emergency.
In light of the fire’s suspicious origins, the Claremont Fire Department has launched a full investigation to determine the cause.
The investigation is currently active, and authorities are seeking information from the public.
