BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit arrested a man late Saturday night on firearm-related charges following a traffic stop in Dorchester.
At about 10:46 p.m., on April 6, Kamarra Freeman, 33, of Lincoln, was taken into custody by officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan).
The arrest occurred after Freeman’s vehicle was seen running a red light and making an improper turn from Blue Hill Avenue onto Baird Street.
When the vehicle stopped abruptly in the middle of the road, officers initiated a traffic stop using their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens.
Freeman exited his vehicle and began arguing with the officers, refusing multiple requests to provide his driver’s license.
As officers moved to arrest Freeman for his non-compliance, a firearm was spotted in a holster on the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
The other occupants of the car were asked to exit and provide their information, which they also refused.
They were later released from the scene, and the vehicle was towed for safekeeping.
Further investigation revealed that Freeman’s driver’s license was suspended.
The firearm recovered was identified as an FN handgun with a magazine containing ten rounds.
Freeman faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, refusal to identify himself, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at Dorchester District Court.
