EAST HAVEN — A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of a Planet Fitness and nearby establishments on Foxon Road on April 4, at approximately 4:16 p.m., authorities said.
The East Haven Police Department said they were alerted by their counterparts in New Haven about an email from an unknown sender claiming a bomb had been placed at the fitness center, located at 836 Foxon Road.
The email led to the immediate evacuation of the gym, surrounding businesses, and residences as a precautionary measure.
The New Haven Police Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene to conduct a thorough search of the building.
After an extensive sweep, officials determined that the threat was not credible.
This marks the second bomb threat at this East Haven Planet Fitness in the past two weeks, with similar incidents reported at other locations in the region.
East Haven detectives are collaborating with state and federal agencies to trace the origin of these threats.
As the investigation continues, police are seeking assistance from the public.
