NEWFIELDS — A vehicle rollover into a pond early this morning led to a significant emergency response, with the driver managing to escape unharmed.
Authorities received a 911 call around 4:20 a.m. regarding a motor vehicle crash near 230 Piscassic Rd.
The Newfields Police Department, along with New Hampshire State Police, Newfields Fire Department, and Newmarket Fire & Rescue, responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, emergency crews faced challenges reaching the crash site due to downed trees and wires obstructing the path.
Epping Fire & Rescue Department and Exeter Hospital Advanced Life Support were called in for mutual aid from the west to expedite the rescue efforts.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a tree had fallen onto Route 87.
A 2022 Toyota Tacoma, traveling eastbound, struck the downed tree, veered off the road, crashed into a stone wall, became airborne, and landed in a small pond.
The male driver of the Tacoma managed to self-extricate and call for help.
He was not injured in the incident and refused transport to the hospital.
The Newfields Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash, but early indications are that the falling tree was the primary cause of the accident.
