NEWPORT — A Newport man has been charged with arson in connection with a series of fires spanning three years in northern Vermont, according to state police.
The Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, after an extensive investigation, cited James Teixeira, 39, of Newport, in relation to three separate fires deemed suspicious.
The incidents occurred on Aug. 25, 2019, at 2457 Gore Road and 4874 Gore Road in Avery’s Gore, and on May 21, at 1717 Webster Road in Coventry.
The Avery’s Gore fires involved seasonal camps, while the Coventry fire destroyed a single-family home and camper.
Victims of the fires include Dennis and Randy Bingham, Brian and Paul Maxwell from Derby and Brighton, as well as Dale Sherburne, 71, from Barton, and Dean Porter, 81, from Brattleboro.
Investigators gathered and analyzed evidence and conducted multiple interviews, which led to Teixeira being charged with three counts of arson. He is set to appear in Orleans County and Essex County courts.
Authorities say they continue to seek information regarding these cases.
