READFIELD — State police are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution following a series of weather-related accidents, including a dramatic incident where a driver collided with a plow truck and ended up in an inlet of Maranacook Lake.
The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday on Beaver Dam Road when the driver lost control of their vehicle, striking the plow head-on before veering into the lake.
The individual managed to self-extricate and, remarkably, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Maine State Police have been busy responding to approximately 130 crashes and slide-offs across the state, including on the Turnpike and the Interstate.
While most of these accidents resulted in property damage only, a few individuals sustained minor injuries.
Authorities are reminding those who must travel during the storm to drive slowly, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, avoid distractions such as using a phone, and to stay home if possible.
The safety warnings come as Maine experiences severe winter conditions causing hazardous driving situations statewide.
