WATERBURY — A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 89 near exit 10 resulted in serious injuries for one driver, Vermont State Police reported.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:09 p.m. on March 14 when a 2009 Subaru Outback, driven by 60-year-old Tammy Jacoby of Lyndon Center, merged into the left lane of northbound I-89 at mile marker 63.8.
Thomas Cook, 71, of Barre City, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Elantra in the left lane and swerved to avoid Jacoby’s vehicle, subsequently crashing into a guardrail.
Cook, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington by the Waterbury Ambulance Service.
Jacoby, who was wearing her seat belt, sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.
The Subaru sustained damage to the driver’s side, while the Hyundai suffered extensive damage to the front end.
Clear weather and road conditions were reported at the time of the incident.
Vermont State Police, along with the Waterbury Fire Department, responded to the scene, and an active investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
