WILLISTON — The Vermont State Police have cited a former trooper, Giancarlo DiGenova, 45, of Essex, on an additional charge related to the theft of personal property from a secure storage room at the Williston Barracks.
The investigation began in late January as troopers were moving into the new VSP Barracks in Williston.
During the transfer of personal property items that had been taken from individuals upon their arrest, troopers discovered that a gold necklace with a diamond-dust pendant, valued at approximately $375, was missing.
Subsequent investigation by a VSP detective determined that DiGenova had sold the necklace on eBay for about $297 in December 2022.
Records showed that DiGenova used his ID to enter the secure storage room multiple times between Sept. 7, 2022, when the necklace was stored, and December, when he sold it.
The buyer, unaware that the necklace had been stolen, later re-sold the item, which has not been recovered.
DiGenova has been issued a citation via his attorney on misdemeanor counts of petit larceny and sale of stolen property related to this incident.
He was ordered to appear for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. March 21, 2024.
This additional charge follows DiGenova’s citation on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges on March 20, 2023, related to the theft of items from personal property storage rooms at VSP barracks.
