BERLIN — Dustin Mark Duren, 37, was arrested on a charge of Second Degree Murder in the death of 31-year-old Caitlyn Naffziger.
On the evening of February 29, at about 10:30 p.m., New Hampshire State Police and Berlin Police responded to an apartment at 1063 Main Street where they found Naffziger’s body.
The autopsy conducted by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg confirmed the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the head, ruling the case a homicide.
Following the incident, an Amber Alert was issued early on March 1 for Duren and his two children, ages 4 and 1, who were believed to be with him.
The alert led to a tip from citizens who spotted Duren’s vehicle near a restaurant on Key Road in Keene, leading to their safe recovery around 11 a.m.
Duren is slated for arraignment in 1st Circuit Court – District Division in Berlin on Monday, March 4.
Authorities extend their gratitude to the Keene Police Department for their assistance in the case, and to the citizens who responded to the Amber Alert, ensuring the children’s safety.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice, State Police, and Berlin Police Department have stated that additional information will be made available as the investigation proceeds, ensuring the integrity of the ongoing process.
