PORTSMOUTH — A 65-year-old California woman was killed in a vehicle crash along Interstate 95 on Thursday morning, according to New Hampshire State Police.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. yesterday when police received reports of a crash just south of exit 3B.
State troopers from Troop A arrived at the scene to find a 2019 Genesis G70 overturned in the high-speed breakdown lane of the southbound side.
Investigation of the crash site suggested that the car had been traveling northbound when the 38-year-old male driver from Saugus, MA, lost control.
The vehicle veered off the road into the median and struck a large light pole.
The impact ejected the woman passenger, who was from Buena Park, CA, resulting in her death at the scene.
The driver was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities have not released the identities of the individuals involved as the investigation is ongoing.
The crash led to the closure of two southbound lanes on I-95 for about three hours as the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Unit, along with local police and fire departments, conducted their investigation.
The New Hampshire Department of Transportation, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, and National Wrecker Service provided additional support at the scene.
State Police are continuing to examine all factors contributing to the crash.
