BOSTON — A Newton man was arrested Sunday evening on charges including attempted arson after a disturbance at a South Boston bar, police said.
David Gong, 33, was taken into custody around 6:35 p.m. outside 22 Liberty Dr, where officers had been called for a report of vandalism in progress.
According to authorities, Gong had been denied service for intoxication and subsequently threw water at the bar staff.
After being refused service, Gong allegedly went to the restroom, where he caused damage and set fire to a trash barrel.
Staff were alerted to the blaze when Gong told them there was a fire in the bathroom upon his exit.
Boston Fire Department responded to the call and successfully extinguished the fire.
Police located Gong outside the establishment and arrested him without further incident.
He is facing multiple charges including burning of a public building, burning of personal property, attempt to burn a public building, attempted arson of a dwelling house, and malicious destruction of property.
The date for Gong’s arraignment has yet to be announced.
