BRISTOL — A bomb threat led to the evacuation of Newfound Memorial Middle School on Thursday, according to local authorities.
The threat, which was found written inside a school bathroom, prompted an immediate response from the Bristol Police Department.
The school was placed under shelter-in-place orders until police advised an evacuation for precautionary measures.
An exhaustive search by law enforcement officials determined that the building was safe for re-entry.
Students and staff, who had been kept outside for roughly ten minutes, were then moved to the gymnasium.
School administrators, in a letter to parents and staff, expressed gratitude for the patience and understanding shown by parents and guardians during the incident.
They also commended the Bristol and Alexandria Police Departments for their swift and thorough response.
“The NMMS staff performed their emergency duties with excellence and professionalism as they have been trained to do,” stated the letter signed by Steve Nilhas and Chris Ulrich.
Classes at Newfound Memorial Middle School will resume as normal on Friday.
