WASHINGTON — The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office has concluded that Tanairy “Tanya” Velazquez Estrada, 23, whose body was found on Oct. 25, died of asphyxia due to strangling, classifying her death as a homicide.
The Vermont State Police reported that the investigation into Velazquez Estrada’s death is active and ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Berlin barracks at 802-229-9191 or submit an anonymous tip online.
Velazquez Estrada was reported missing by her mother after more than a week without contact.
The report coincided with the discovery of her body in Washington.
An autopsy performed on Oct. 27 was initially pending toxicology results.
Investigators have indicated that this appears to be an isolated incident, and they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
The Vermont State Police has committed to providing updates as the investigation continues.
