NEWBURY — A man was arrested Monday morning after Vermont State Police responded to a family disturbance call at a Newbury residence.
At approximately 9:08 a.m., troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks were dispatched to the scene of the reported domestic incident.
The accused, Timothy Kearney, 32, of Newbury, had already fled the scene when authorities arrived.
Despite initial efforts to locate Kearney proving fruitless, he later returned to the residence, seized a machete, and escaped into a nearby wooded area.
Troopers continued their search and eventually found Kearney walking along US Route 302 in Newbury later in the day.
Kearney was taken into custody and charged with domestic assault, simple assault, and violation of conditions of release.
He was transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing without further incident.
The Vermont State Police have not disclosed the identity of the victim, adhering to their policy of protecting the privacy of individuals involved in domestic or sexual violence cases.
