BOSTON — Officers from the Anti-Crime Unit of District A-1 made an arrest of a Cambridge man for firearm possession and drug offenses in downtown Boston on Saturday evening.

At about 6:57 p.m., while patrolling the area of Tremont Street and Winter Street in response to community complaints of drug use and other quality of life issues, officers noticed a group of individuals outside 128 Tremont Street.

Among them, Robert Offutt, 41, was seen consuming alcohol in public.

Upon noticing the police presence, Offutt attempted to leave the scene, leading to a foot chase when officers called for him to stop.

After a brief struggle, police apprehended Offutt and found a firearm, identified as a KBI PMK380 with a defaced serial number, and ammunition nearby.

A search of Offutt also revealed several plastic bags containing substances believed to be crack cocaine and cocaine.

During the booking process, he provided a false identity to officers.

His true identity was later confirmed, uncovering multiple active arrest warrants.

Offutt faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession with intent to distribute class B drugs, resisting arrest, identity fraud, and providing a false name to a police officer.

He is expected to face these charges at the Boston Municipal Court.
