CANAAN — A routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase when a New Hampshire State Police trooper attempted to pull over an SUV for misuse of plates on Feb. 13.
At around 8:25 p.m., Trooper Conde from the New Hampshire State Police Troop F Barracks noticed a vehicle with a Vermont truck plate drive past the Canaan Police Department.
The plate was registered to a white Ford pickup truck, but the vehicle was a green 2007 Toyota Highlander.
When Trooper Conde tried to stop the SUV, the driver fled into Grafton, eventually crashing on Height of Land Road as he tried to turn around on the dead-end street.
Assisted by the Canaan Police, Trooper Conde extracted the driver from the stuck vehicle.
The driver was identified as 53-year-old Robert “Bobby” Tibbits from Enfield.
Tibbits was taken into custody on two outstanding warrants and booked at the Canaan Police Department.
A search of the Highlander uncovered cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, and a sum of U.S. currency.
Tibbits was denied bail and subsequently transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections.
