NEW BEDFORD — A local man is in custody following a narcotics raid that yielded a significant haul of illegal substances from his North End residence on Saturday.
Detective Jonathan Miranda of the New Bedford Police Department spearheaded the investigation that targeted 35-year-old Jarrod Alves, suspected of running a cocaine distribution operation from his apartment at 263 Phillips Ave., apartment 3.
The raid, conducted on February 10, led to the discovery and seizure of over 157 grams of cocaine, 80 grams of fentanyl, and quantities of Xanax, Ecstasy, and mushrooms.
Authorities also confiscated digital scales and packaging materials used in the drug trade, indicative of an operation preparing narcotics for street sales.
Additionally, police seized over $2,400 in cash believed to be proceeds from Alves’s illegal drug activities.
Alves now faces several charges, including trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in fentanyl, and possession with intent to distribute substances in classes A, B, C, D, and E.
With a 2014 conviction for possession with intent to distribute class A drugs, Alves could face increased penalties as a repeat offender.
At the time of his latest arrest, Alves was on probation from a previous case in Bristol Superior Court.
His criminal record includes convictions for various offenses such as firearm violations, assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer.
The New Bedford Police Department is reaching out to the community for any additional information related to crime in the area.
