MANCHESTER — Several multi-vehicle accidents on Interstate 93 near Manchester caused injuries, including a firefighter, and brought traffic to a standstill Tuesday morning.

Manchester Fire, AMR, and New Hampshire State Police were called to the scene of multiple accidents on I-93, where a total of 15 vehicles were involved.

The first call came in at 5:44 a.m. for a crash on I-93 north, just south of the I-293 split.

Crews from Manchester Fire Engine 3, Engine 8, and a basic life support (BLS) unit responded to a seven-vehicle pileup.

Firefighters extricated a woman from a car; she was rushed to Elliot Hospital with life-threatening head injuries.

During the emergency response, a pickup truck crashed into Engine 3 and two other vehicles after striking a guardrail.

The officer from Engine 3 narrowly escaped harm, but a fellow firefighter was hit and injured.

The injured firefighter received treatment at the scene and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries to his hip and knee.

He has since been released.

The northbound lanes of I-93 were closed for about 90 minutes as a result of the collisions.

Simultaneously, accidents occurred on I-93 south between the Wellington Road onramp and Exit 6.

The on-ramp and southbound lanes were closed for approximately an hour.

Crews cleared the scene of six vehicles, including a box truck that had toppled over the guardrail.

A separate incident in Manchester involved a bus carrying students to a local grammar school.

The bus slid on icy Frontage Road and collided with a box truck and a car.

No injuries were reported, and the students were transferred to another bus to continue to school.

Additionally, I-93 southbound in Wilton was closed for about an hour due to a series of crashes, including one involving an overturned tractor-trailer.

State police are investigating the incidents and have not yet released further details.
