BEEBE – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is set to host a community meeting in Derby, to discuss the significant upgrades planned for the Beebe Plain Land Port of Entry, a gateway between Beebe Plain, Vermont, and Stanstead, Quebec.
The public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. local time at the Derby Town Office’s Select Board Room, located at 124 Main Street. Instead of a formal presentation, the GSA has opted for an open house format to foster dialogue and information sharing. This approach allows the public to interact directly with GSA representatives, discussing the project in detail.
Central to the Beebe Plain port’s redevelopment are objectives to create a durable, sustainable, and climate-resilient facility with minimized maintenance and operating costs. The project aims to bolster the operational capabilities of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection.
During the community meeting, the GSA will introduce the project team, provide an overview of the project, and engage in open discussions on various topics. These include the public’s experience with the current port, town and regional projects, and interests of the community and businesses.
The redevelopment involves renovating the existing port with advanced upgrades, incorporating the latest technologies and equipment for improved traffic management and inspection. The GSA has already taken a significant step by awarding a $444,923 contract to Marble Fairbanks for architectural and engineering services. This contract marks the commencement of the concept development phase for the project.
This project is part of a broader initiative under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which allocates a total of $3.4 billion for GSA to modernize land ports of entry on the northern and southern borders of the United States.
