COHASSET — A man in his 50s was fatally struck by a train just south of Cohasset Station at 12:13 p.m. today, according to Cohasset police and MBTA officials.
The victim was reportedly on the tracks within the right-of-way when the outbound train heading towards Scituate struck him.
The incident prompted a response from Cohasset police detectives, Transit police detectives, and Troopers assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s office, who are currently conducting an investigation.
As a result of the accident, Lower King Street was closed for approximately three hours while emergency services attended the scene.
Passengers on the affected train were transferred to an MBTA bus to continue their journey to stops located south of Cohasset.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been tasked with determining the cause and manner of death.
