AMHERST — Police in Amherst were led on a high-speed pursuit Thursday evening after attempting to stop a driver who was reportedly operating a vehicle erratically on Route 101A near the Milford town line.
The incident began around 9 p.m. when officers tried to pull over the vehicle.
The driver, later identified as 34-year-old Joshua William Corbett of Merrimack, initially appeared to comply before accelerating away, prompting the chase into Milford at dangerous speeds.
Due to safety concerns, authorities decided to end the pursuit.
Corbett allegedly re-entered Amherst on Ponemah Hill Road, causing property damage in Milford.
Despite Amherst police deploying stop sticks on Ponemah Road, Corbett continued driving onto Stearns Road, where he hit a mailbox and eventually lost control of his vehicle at the intersection of Boston Post Road, crashing into the woods.
Officers apprehended Corbett at the crash site and took him into custody without further incident.
Amherst Fire Rescue evaluated him at the scene and confirmed he sustained no serious injuries from the crash.
Facing numerous charges from the night’s events, Corbett has been charged with operating after being certified as a habitual offender, aggravated DWI, disobeying an officer, conduct after an accident, and reckless operation.
Milford Police Department also charged him with three counts of Conduct After an Accident.
Following his booking, Corbett was released on personal recognizance bail, with an arraignment scheduled for Feb. 2 at Hillsborough County Superior Court.
