SPRINGFIELD — At around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 20, Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) detectives, led by Sgt. Christopher Hitas, seized a loaded large-capacity ghost gun and arrested two individuals after executing a search warrant on the 0-100 block of Benton Street.
The FIU had been investigating a 17-year-old male for several months in connection to illegal firearms activities.
On Wednesday, detectives received a tip that the juvenile was in possession of a firearm.
They quickly applied for and obtained a search warrant for his Benton Street residence.
Upon executing the warrant, detectives secured the house’s occupants and discovered a ghost gun loaded with 13 rounds, an additional magazine capable of holding 33 rounds, loose ammunition, over $3,100 in cash, and more than a dozen pre-packaged bags of marijuana.
The 17-year-old suspect, whose identity is protected due to his age, was arrested along with 21-year-old Janiel Camacho of Springfield.
The juvenile’s charges and booking information remain confidential.
Camacho faces charges including possession of ammunition without an FID card—subsequent offense and possession with the intent to distribute a Class D drug.
