HYANNIS — A Hyannis man has been deemed a danger to the community and held without bail after a Thanksgiving Day shooting incident, Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois announced today.
Mark Griswold, 53, faces multiple charges, including armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and assault and battery on a family or household member.
The Barnstable County District Court found Griswold dangerous following the incident, which occurred on Nov. 23 at about 5:37 p.m.
Barnstable Police responded to a 911 call from a Hyannis residence where gunshots were reported.
Officers located a victim with gunshot wounds, who was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital.
Investigations led to the identification of Griswold as the shooter.
He had been recently released from state prison after serving a five-year sentence for firearm-related offenses.
Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Isaacs, Chief of the Domestic Violence Unit, will prosecute the case.
Griswold was held without bail in the Barnstable District Court on Dec. 8.
He is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing on Jan. 4, 2024, in the Barnstable District Court and for a probation surrender hearing on Jan. 26, 2024, in the Barnstable Superior Court.
The Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office has stated it will not comment further on the charges against Griswold at this time and emphasizes that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
