TEWKSBURY — Police Chief Ryan Columbus announced the arrest of a Tewksbury man on charges of third-offense drunken driving following a hit and run incident near the local police station.

Kevin O’Donnell, age 58, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor (third offense), negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, marked lanes violation, and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, around 10:41 p.m., Tewksbury Police received reports of a Toyota Tundra driving erratically and striking a tree in the vicinity of the Tewksbury Police Station at 918 Main St.

Responding officers found damage to a tree on the police station’s front lawn, along with tire tracks on the grass.

They obtained a description of the vehicle and soon located a vehicle matching the description near Main Street and Victor Drive.

The driver, identified as O’Donnell, was then taken into custody after an investigation at the scene.

He was held overnight at the police station and is slated to be arraigned on Thursday in Lowell District Court.
