NEW BEDFORD — A disturbance call led New Bedford police to seize an illegal firearm in the city’s south end late last month.
On Nov. 30, at approximately 8 p.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance near the intersection of Rivet and Crapo streets.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Wesley Mujica Carrasquillo of 248 N. Front St., had already fled the scene when police arrived.
During the search, police discovered a cross-body bag in a nearby yard belonging to Carrasquillo.
Inside, officers found a .40 caliber handgun loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition that had been reported stolen from Florida.
A warrant has been issued for Carrasquillo’s arrest on charges including possession of a large-capacity firearm and ammunition.
Officer Carlos Fernandes is leading the investigation.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information regarding Carrasquillo’s whereabouts or other crime-related tips.
