DORCHESTER — Two women were arrested Friday after a detail officer was pepper-sprayed during an altercation on Washington Street and Talbot Avenue.
The incident occurred at about 11:18 a.m. when the officer, working a paid detail, noticed a fight in the street.
She managed to separate the two individuals involved, but as she did, another scuffle broke out among a different group.
During the chaos, one of the women involved in the initial fight turned and sprayed the officer in the face with pepper spray.
The assailant then tried to escape in a vehicle.
Backup officers arrived promptly and stopped the car.
As they arrested the suspect who used the pepper spray, another woman in the vehicle began to obstruct the arrest.
Despite multiple warnings, she assaulted the officers, leading to a physical confrontation before she was eventually handcuffed.
Skyla Malave, 18, faces charges of assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest.
Priscilla Malave, 40, is charged with assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Both suspects are set to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
