DEERFIELD — Two Connecticut men were arrested after a high-speed pursuit in a stolen vehicle led to the discovery of firearms and cocaine early Tuesday morning.
According to the Massachusetts State Police, Trooper Owen King was monitoring traffic on Route 91 when he spotted a blue Acura sedan with an unrecognizable license plate at around 1:15 a.m.
When King attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver accelerated, initiating a chase that ended when the Acura crashed.
King, with the assistance of Trooper Ryan Costello, apprehended the driver, 28-year-old Dashua Roldan of East Hartford, Conn., who initially provided a false name.
Roldan, who had an existing warrant for his arrest, and passenger Raekqwon Edwards, 28, of Hartford, Conn., were taken into custody.
An inventory of the vehicle’s contents revealed a loaded .45 caliber pistol with a defaced serial number, a loaded 9mm pistol, and packages of substances suspected to be cocaine, weighing a total of 927 grams.
Troopers also found items indicative of illegal narcotics use and distribution.
Further investigation confirmed the Acura was reported stolen from the Bronx, N.Y.
Roldan is facing charges including failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, multiple firearms offenses, trafficking in cocaine, and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
Edwards is charged with possession of a large capacity firearm in commission of a felony, trafficking in cocaine, and receiving a stolen motor vehicle, among other charges.
Both men were booked with bail set at $10,000 and were scheduled for arraignment at Greenfield District Court.
