Worcester man arrested for car theft, assault after morning incident

WORCESTER — A Worcester man was arrested on multiple charges Thursday morning after allegedly stealing a car and injuring the vehicle’s owner, according to police.

At about 8:05 a.m., police were called to Woodbine St. for a report of a stolen vehicle.

Witnesses told officers that a man took a black Honda that was left running in a driveway.

As the suspect attempted to flee, he hit a parked car.

The owner of the struck vehicle confronted the thief and was hit in the leg as the suspect drove off.

Police issued a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) alert and at approximately 9:15 a.m., the stolen Honda was spotted on Endicott St. Carlos Torres, 20, of Suffield St., was apprehended and now faces charges including Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Motor Vehicle), Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injury, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage.

Torres is currently being held pending arraignment.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
