NEWPORT –– The Northeast Kingdom is set to welcome former NBA Celtics superstar Chris Herren for a powerful presentation on overcoming addiction. This event, hosted by Journey to Recovery Community Center in partnership with Northeast Kingdom Human Services, is aimed at shedding light on the struggles and triumphs related to substance use disorder.

Scheduled for Thursday, November 30, at North Country Union High School, the evening will begin with appetizers at 5:30 p.m., followed by introductions and Herren’s presentation at 6 p.m. Herren’s personal journey through heroin and cocaine addiction, leading to four overdoses and seven felonies, is a testament to the possibility of transformation and recovery.

His compelling story is not only about his own recovery but also about helping others escape the darkness of addiction. Students who have heard him speak in the past have praised his approach, with one noting that Herren made “being sober cool” and another acknowledging how his experience resonated with their own struggles.
