Fatal crash on I-91 in Barton under investigation

BARTON — A tragic car crash on Interstate 91 in Barton, claimed the life of one individual and left two others seriously injured yesterday.

On Sunday, at around 12:43 p.m., police were alerted to an accident near mile marker 155 on the northbound lane. Initial investigations suggest that the 2013 Ford Explorer, driven by Ediberto Luna, 30, of East Boston, MA, veered off the right side of the wet interstate due to rainy conditions.

The vehicle subsequently descended an embankment, colliding with a concrete wall and trees.

Luna, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time, sustained severe life-threatening injuries and was swiftly transported to North Country Hospital. He was later moved to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for advanced care.

The front seat passenger, Jorge Caballeros, 33, also of East Boston, MA, who was not wearing a seatbelt, incurred serious injuries and was rushed to the same facilities as Luna.

Tragically, the rear seat passenger, 18-year-old Brian Sanchez of East Boston, MA, succumbed to his fatal injuries. Reports indicate that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Ford Explorer suffered substantial damage, particularly on the driver’s side, rendering it totaled.
