Suspicious death in Newport Town under investigation

NEWPORT — Vermont State Police are probing a suspicious death after a man was found shot inside a Newport Town home Saturday evening, urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the unfolding investigation.

Authorities responded to a call at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, regarding an adult male who had been shot inside a residence on Farrar Road. Upon arrival, troopers discovered the man deceased at the scene. The identity of the victim is being withheld until further investigation is conducted and next of kin are notified.

The investigation, still in its preliminary stages, involves multiple units from the Vermont State Police, including the Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Field Force Division, Crime Scene Search Team, and Victim Services Unit. While no individuals are currently in custody related to the incident, authorities have expressed their belief that this was an isolated occurrence.

The body of the deceased will be transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington, where an autopsy will be conducted to ascertain the cause and manner of the death.
