PITTSFIELD –– A construction worker was killed early Thursday morning when a vehicle struck him while he was working on a closed section of West Street, according to the Pittsfield Police Department.
Shane Cassavant, 49, of Lanesboro, was hit by a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado driven by Edward Ladouceur, 87, of Pittsfield, at about 7:52 a.m. on Oct. 12.
The eastbound lane of West Street was closed for construction, and traffic was being directed into the westbound lane by a flagger.
Ladouceur entered the construction zone and hit Cassavant, who was working in the roadway. Cassavant was taken to BMC where he later died from his injuries.
The Pittsfield Police and Fire Departments, along with Action Ambulance, responded to the scene at 777 West St.
The area was closed to traffic for about three hours while officials investigated the crash and cleaned up the roadway.
The incident is still under investigation by Officer Hallas of the Pittsfield Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
