CLAREMONT –– Early Friday morning, Claremont Police Officers responded to reports of gunfire on Heritage Drive.
The suspect, 38-year-old Joshua Deveney, was subsequently apprehended at his residence where he lived with an adult female and four children.
The police were alerted to the situation around 2:54 a.m. on October 6, after receiving two calls about shots being fired.
The callers identified a specific address and indicated that the shooter shared the residence with the woman and children.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with additional witnesses who provided more information about the incident. After a thorough investigation, police were able to positively identify Deveney as the shooter.
The Claremont Police Department’s Special Response Team quickly developed a plan to safely evacuate the woman and children from the residence and apprehend Deveney.
Officers confirmed that no one in the apartment or the immediate neighborhood had been injured.
Deveney has been charged with Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon and Witness Tampering.
He is currently being held at the Sullivan County House of Corrections and is scheduled to be arraigned at the Sullivan County Superior Court today.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, with detectives actively reviewing surveillance footage, executing search warrants, collecting evidence, and conducting interviews.
