NEWPORT — Over the weekend of September 17 and 18, Vermont 4-H was prominently showcased at the Eastern States Exposition, with more than three dozen 4-H enthusiasts presenting their projects and passions. These ranged from action exhibits and talks to stage acts and other engaging demonstrations at the New England Center.
These young representatives were chosen to perform at the “Big E” in West Springfield, Massachusetts, having secured blue ribbons at the annual 4-H State Day back in May. In a display of 4-H pride, many participants also joined the daily parade on 4-H Day, September 16, riding on dedicated floats.
Representing the state of Vermont were several clubs and individuals:
Action Exhibits:
- Blazing Bridles 4-H Club, Danville: Presented “Halter Holder” with members Kaylee Demars and Paige Hemond from St. Johnsbury, LeighAnn Judd from Wolcott, and Jenesy Zwart from Danville.
- Caspian Critters 4-H Club, Greensboro: Demonstrated “Three Thrilling Things to Do with Too Much Milk” with Natalie Hill and Emma Rowell from Greensboro and Maia Young from Glover.
- Kingdom Hoofbeats, Derby Line: Showcased two exhibits: “Quit Your Belly Achin’” with members Nora and Vera Acheson from North Troy, Maggie Guyer from Morgan, Jayde Hopkins and Kassie Koehler from Newport, Piper Parsons from Derby, and Taylor Peck from Sheffield. And “Tag, You’re It” featuring Penelope Longe and Carlie Rondeau from Newport, Annabelle and Désirée Jensen from West Charleston, and Lillie Royer from Newport Center.
- Whispering Pines 4-H Club, Westford: Highlighted “Canning Shadows” with members Kinzi Grindle from St. Albans, Josie and Lillian Kascha-Hare, Saige Prisco, Lily and Samantha Provost from Milton, and Graham Robinson from Underhill.
Fashion Revue: Grace Denio from Waterford showcased a one-piece jumpsuit with pockets.
Illustrated Talk: Grace Denio from Waterford presented “Ain’t Enough Pockets,” and Tieghan Perry from Danville talked about “Equine Recurrent Uveitis.”
Smart Shoppers: Breeana Garcia from Woodsville, New Hampshire, modeled a school outfit, and Jaida Jenkin from Wheelock displayed a night out outfit, both assembled within a $50 budget.
Stage Presentation (Group): Rutland Performance and Arts Club members, including James Shorey from Fair Haven, Aliza Smith from Tinmouth, Lucia Stubbins from Rutland Town, and Adeline White from Pittsford, entertained with songs.
