DERBY –– Fred’s Energy, a name synonymous with quality service in Northern Vermont, has been celebrating their 50th anniversary with customer specials and events all year long. Yet on Saturday, August 19th, it was time to recognize their hard working, dedicated employees with a dinner event at The Barn at Top of the World in Newport.
The company that Fred Oeschger began in 1973 with only two trucks has grown immensely and now with a fleet of vehicles, employs over a hundred professionals. It was wonderful for employees from all four of their offices to get together, relax and have fun, and be honored for their efforts and dedication.
From its humble origins in Derby, Fred’s Energy has expanded with offices in Lyndonville, Morrisville, and a recent addition in Richford. While they’ve been the go-to for heating, cooling, and plumbing services for decades, their commitment to community-building is equally commendable. The company frequently donates, sponsors events, and has a special holiday toy drive where participants stand a chance to win up to 100 gallons of propane or oil at each of their four offices.
Dennis Percy, the General Manager for Fred’s Energy, expressed his pride in the company’s growth and values.

Our employees go above and beyond for our customers which has contributed to our long-time success. Simple things such as covering our shoes to protect homes, to educating customers on what was done – and even getting permits for customers when needed – shows how much we appreciate and respect our customers. We also share information with homeowners as to how they can save time and money, which everyone appreciates.”
The Saturday event was a testament to the close-knit community that is Fred’s Energy. An anniversary cake for dessert was a meticulous replica of the float Fred’s Energy had crafted for the Derby 4th of July parade. The original float, a symbol of the company’s legacy and pride, now adorns the front lawn of the Fred’s Energy main office in Derby.
