PANTON — A 49-year-old man was arrested for boating under the influence following an incident in Panton yesterday.
Authorities say they were notified of a boating accident on Lake Champlain, in the area of Arnold Bay, at around 7:00 p.m.
Police say that Lydia Vorsteveld, 61, of Bridport, was swimming in Arnold Bay when she was struck by a vessel under motion.
The driver of the vessel was identified as Gerard J. Vorsteveld.
While speaking to Vorsteveld, police say they observed indicators of impairment and he was screened for suspicion of boating under the influence.
He was placed under arrest for suspicion of boating under the influence.
He was transported to the Vergennes Police Department for processing and was later released with a citation to appear in court at a later date.
Police say Vorsteveld was air lifted to the University of Vermont Medical Center for injuries.
