2 more arrested after $34K coin theft in Derby

DERBY — Three people have now been arrested in connection with a burglary that took place in Derby last month.

On April 18, authorities say they were notified of a burglary that occurred on Shattuck Hill Road.

A man and and accomplice were captured on surveillance footage breaking into the home through the back door and stealing the safe, containing $34,675 in coins

Police say they recovered various amounts of rare coins from multiple local businesses which had been utilized as currency.

On April 22, Newport Police located Jonathan Letourneau, 33, of Newport, who was a person of interest for the burglary, during a traffic stop.

Troopers responded to the traffic stop and arrested Letourneau for the offense of burglary.

He was transported to the Vermont State Police Derby barracks for processing and was later lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.

On April 25, police conducted a consent search at the home of James Beauvais in Holland, recovering a large amount of stolen property.

At the time Beauvais was not present at the home and his whereabouts were unknown, but police later located and arrested him for possession of stolen property related to the case.

Beauvais was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.

On March 5, police located Dustin Sheltra, 27, of Charleston, and having probable cause, arrested him for possession of stolen property related to the case.

Sheltra was later lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail.

Although some property has been recovered, the case is still active and ongoing, police say.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining stolen property or information regarding other individuals involved is asked to contact the Vermont State Police.
