DERRY — Four people were seriously injured in a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 93 south on Friday afternoon.
The Windham Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at approximately 12:50 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about the collision.
The Derry Fire Department also responded on automatic aid, sending a Battalion Chief, Medic Unit, EMS Director, and Engine Company, while the Salem Fire Department sent an additional Battalion Chief, Engine Company, and Rescue Unit.
Upon arrival, Windham Fire Chief Thomas McPherson Jr. reported one vehicle off to the right side of the highway with heavy damage and multiple people ejected.
Two adult females and two adult males were found with serious to life-threatening injuries.
Trauma Alerts were requested at the Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and Elliot Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire, due to the severity of the injuries.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the New Hampshire State Police.
It is unclear whether the occupants were wearing seat belts.
The incident closed I-93 southbound in the area for several hours, causing significant traffic backups.
Fire personnel remained on the scene to assist the NH State Police.
