Driver seriously injured during single-vehicle crash in Newport Center

NEWPORT CENTER – A man is in serious condition following a single-vehicle crash in Newport Center yesterday evening.

According to Vermont State Police, Clifford Winsted, 42, of Newport Center, was driving south on Vermont Route 100 when he failed to negotiate a left-hand bend in the roadway, causing his 2007 Jeep Liberty to veer off the road and strike a tree.

The vehicle then came to rest in a nearby field.

Winsted was transported to North Country Hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle was totaled in the crash.

The Newport Center Fire Department, Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, and Greiner’s Truck Shop all assisted with the crash.

The incident is still under investigation, and anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks at 802-334-8881.
